President Donald Trump announced plans to send 5,000 additional U.S. troops to Poland, citing his relationship with newly elected Polish President Karol Nawrocki.
The announcement appeared to reverse a recent Pentagon decision to halt the deployment of a 4,200-member Army brigade to Poland.
U.S. and Polish officials have not clarified which troops will be sent, when they will arrive, or whether the delayed brigade will still deploy.
Polish officials said diplomatic efforts in Washington helped counter the planned troop reduction and maintain U.S. military presence, ABC News has reported.
The move comes amid broader uncertainty over U.S. troop levels in Europe and NATO as the Trump administration reviews its military posture.
