A 39-year-old spearfisher was killed in a shark attack on Sunday at Kennedy Shoal on the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia.
The man, from Cairns, was diving with friends when he suffered a fatal head injury during the attack.
He was transported by boat to Hull Heads, where paramedics confirmed his injuries were unsurvivable.
Witnesses had reported bull sharks in the area before the incident at the popular reef and shipwreck site, ABC News has reported.
The death marks Australia’s third fatal shark attack of 2026 and the second involving a spearfisher in just over a week.
