European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen warned that recent drone incursions into EU airspace are part of a broader, deliberate Russian “hybrid” strategy rather than isolated incidents.
Speaking in Lithuania with Baltic leaders, she said the eastern border of Europe is being actively tested and destabilized, with multiple incidents reported in recent weeks.
Baltic officials echoed concerns, saying their airspace is not fully secure and calling for a coordinated European response.
Leaders from Estonia and Latvia emphasized that the threats are meant to intimidate the region, though they said Europe must respond firmly and calmly, Euro News has reported.
Von der Leyen stressed that what is happening in the Baltic states reflects a wider security challenge for the entire European Union.
