A Massachusetts family of four was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Virginia while traveling to a wedding, where they were bringing homemade desserts for the celebration.
The crash occurred on Interstate 95 when a bus allegedly struck slowed traffic in a work zone, triggering a chain-reaction collision that killed Dmitri and Ecaterina Doncev and their two children, along with another woman.
Several others were injured, and the bus driver has been charged with involuntary manslaughter as investigators examine possible negligence and high speed.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash, which involved a bus traveling from New York to North Carolina, while officials also review the driver’s background and conditions at the time, the AP has reported.
The family, originally from Moldova, was remembered by relatives as deeply devoted, and their planned wedding gathering in South Carolina has turned into a time of mourning.
