A 17-year-old boy was shot during a chaotic social media–organized teen meetup that drew hundreds of people to Clearwater Beach in Florida.

The gathering quickly escalated into fights and disturbances, prompting a large police response already prepared for the event.

Officers found the injured teen with non-life-threatening wounds and transported him to a hospital, while several people were detained as others fled the scene.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing the wounded teen being treated on the beach, Fox 13 News has reported.

Police say they are still investigating who organized the meetup and are warning that future unauthorized “takeovers” will be shut down immediately.
