Karmelo Anthony Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison for Murder of Austin Metcalf

Karmelo Anthony, a Texas teenager, was sentenced to 35 years in prison after being found guilty of murdering fellow student Austin Metcalf during a 2025 high school track meet.

The jury rejected Anthony’s claim that he acted in self-defense after evidence showed a confrontation escalated when he allegedly stabbed Metcalf in the chest.

The sentencing followed emotional victim impact statements from Metcalf’s family, who described their grief and the lasting impact of his death.

Metcalf’s parents and twin brother spoke in court about their loss and criticized Anthony for taking his life, People.com has reported.

Anthony will be eligible for parole after serving half of his sentence.
