A federal judge quashed subpoenas issued by the Trump administration to Minnesota officials, including Governor Tim Walz, over an immigration enforcement investigation.
The court ruled the subpoenas were politically motivated and aimed at pressuring “sanctuary” jurisdictions rather than pursuing a legitimate legal inquiry.
Judge Patrick Schiltz said the Department of Justice failed to show evidence of actual obstruction by state or local officials.
Minnesota leaders welcomed the ruling, calling it a defense of the rule of law and constitutional rights, The Guardian has reported.
The Justice Department said it would continue investigating alleged obstruction of federal immigration enforcement.
