Luigi Mangione’s federal trial pushed to next year

Luigi Mangione’s federal murder trial for the killing of Brian Thompson has been postponed so it does not overlap with his upcoming state trial on related charges.

Jury selection for the federal case, originally expected earlier, is now scheduled to begin on January 5, 2027, with opening statements set for January 25.

The delay was ordered because the state trial is set to begin on September 8 and cannot be rescheduled.

Both sides had already been preparing jury questionnaires, and the judge approved moving forward with the agreed framework while setting deadlines for evidence disclosures, Fox News has reported.

Mangione also faces allegations that he traveled to New York, used a fake identity, and fled after the December 2024 shooting before being arrested in Pennsylvania.
