Nine people were wounded in a shooting in downtown Tucson, Arizona, early Sunday morning, police said.

Officers responding to the gunfire confronted the suspected shooter and shot him after he ignored repeated commands, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

The victims and suspect were treated by emergency responders and taken to hospitals, with several victims reported in critical condition.

Police have not released the suspect’s identity or details about a possible motive, CBS News has reported.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office will lead the investigation, while Tucson police conduct an internal review of the officer-involved shooting.
