A wildfire broke out Friday afternoon on the slopes of Mount Poikilo in Aspropyrgos, west of Athens, prompting a large emergency response.

More than 100 firefighters, aircraft, helicopters, and local water tankers were deployed to battle the fast-moving blaze.

Authorities issued evacuation alerts through Greece’s 112 emergency system, urging residents in affected areas to move to safety.

The region was already under a Category 4, or very high, wildfire risk warning, Euro News has reported.

Officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire while using drone technology to monitor conditions in real time.
