The federal government is reportedly exploring the use of humanoid robots to patrol the U.S.-Mexico border as part of a broader expansion of high-tech surveillance.
Department of Homeland Security officials have reportedly viewed a presentation from Foundation, a robotics company developing humanoid machines designed for military and security applications.
Foundation founder Sankaet Pathak said the company is in discussions with several national security agencies and is beginning to negotiate potential contracts, although DHS said it currently has no active contracts, pilots or agreements with the company.
The company has already deployed two humanoid robots in Ukraine, where they have reportedly been used for reconnaissance purposes during the war, Futurism has reported.
While the technology remains limited by issues such as battery life, mobility and dexterity, the potential use of humanoid robots at the border signals growing government interest in replacing or supplementing human personnel with autonomous surveillance technology.
