Iran declares capture of US sub near Strait of Hormuz

Iran claims that its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy captured an advanced unmanned U.S. military submarine near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian state media said the vessel was intercepted during what the IRGC described as a complex intelligence and operational mission.

The Iranian military claims the unmanned submarine is one of the United States’ most advanced autonomous underwater systems, which could potentially be used for surveillance and reconnaissance.

The alleged seizure comes as tensions remain extremely high in the region, with the Strait of Hormuz continuing to be a major flashpoint between Iran and the United States, OpIndia has reported.

However, the United States has not publicly confirmed the capture, and important details about the vessel and how it was allegedly seized remain unclear.
