Attorney who defended Casey Anthony representing Frankfort mom accused of killing son

An Illinois mother accused of killing her 2-year-old son in Frankfort has hired attorney Andrea Lyon, who previously helped defend Casey Anthony in her highly publicized murder trial.

Corie Walsh, 40, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder after her son Barrett was found dead in the family’s basement on September 1.

Prosecutors allege Walsh killed the child by compressing his neck and later attempted to harm herself, while her defense says she was experiencing a severe psychotic episode at the time.

Authorities have also said Walsh had been closely following the Lindsay Clancy murder trial and discussed it with friends shortly before her son’s death, although there is no evidence that the cases were directly connected, NBC 5 Chicago has reported.

Lyon is expected to argue that Walsh’s mental state played a significant role in the tragedy as the case moves forward, while Walsh remains in custody awaiting further court proceedings.
