Four members of a Miami-area family were found dead after their small private plane crashed into the waters off Andros Island in the Bahamas.
The victims were identified as 80-year-old pilot Mario Lamar, his 79-year-old wife Lili, and their grandchildren, 28-year-old Sofi Sosa and 22-year-old Christian Sosa.
The PA-34 Piper had departed Great Harbour Cay Monday morning for Miami Executive Airport before air traffic controllers lost contact with it about 13 miles west of Andros Island.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Royal Bahamas Defense Force launched a search, but poor weather disrupted the operation, and relatives ultimately used their own boats to locate and recover the bodies, NBC News has reported.
The family is now working with the Coast Guard to bring the victims home while authorities continue investigating what caused the crash.
