U.S. special envoy Jared Kushner warned Hamas on Monday that it must honor its commitment to disarm in Gaza or risk an Israeli military operation with greater U.S. support.
Kushner said Hamas reaffirmed its commitment to President Donald Trump’s peace plan during talks in Cairo, but stressed that the group’s actions will determine whether the commitment is genuine.
He also met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with disagreements remaining over whether Hamas must fully disarm before Israel withdraws from Gaza.
Kushner said the U.S. will not support rebuilding Gaza until demilitarization occurs, while suggesting Hamas could begin surrendering weapons and dismantling tunnels within the next 30 to 90 days, Fox News has reported.
Despite the ongoing disagreements and lack of trust, Kushner expressed optimism that Trump’s plan could eventually bring an end to the nearly three-year conflict.
