China’s Xi Jinping proposes BRICS ‘open-source AI zone’

Chinese President Xi Jinping has proposed creating an open-source artificial intelligence zone for BRICS countries, with China taking the lead.

The initiative would promote cooperation on developing and applying large language models, along with specialized AI research and training programs.

Xi said the goal is to build an open AI ecosystem that allows BRICS nations to work more closely on the technology.

He also called for a broad, consensus-based global framework for governing artificial intelligence, Euro News has reported.

The proposal comes as China and the United States compete over AI development and prepare for potential discussions on how the rapidly advancing technology should be governed.
