California Gov. Gavin Newsom said he would not run for president in 2028 if former Vice President Kamala Harris decides to run.
Newsom said competing against Harris, who is also from California, would create unnecessary conflict and waste voters’ time.
Although Newsom has not committed to a presidential campaign, he has been building a national profile and criticizing President Donald Trump.
Harris has also not decided whether she will seek the Democratic nomination, but remains a prominent potential candidate, The Guardian has reported.
Newsom said he is still considering his political future and would need to decide whether he is prepared to run when the time comes.
