ICE agent Christian Castro, 52, has been arrested in Minneapolis over the January shooting of a Venezuelan man during Operation Metro Surge.

Castro is accused of shooting Julio Sosa-Celis in the leg through the closed door of his home and later falsely reporting that Sosa-Celis and others had attacked him.

He faces state charges including felony second-degree assault and falsely reporting a crime, as well as federal charges alleging he made false statements to investigators.

Castro had previously spent about three months in a Texas jail while Minnesota sought his extradition, but was released after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott declined to approve the request, USA Today has reported.

Castro was arrested after returning to Minnesota and is scheduled to appear in state and federal court, while the Department of Homeland Security has suspended him from ICE pending the outcome of the case.
