A Vermont jury convicted Jason Eaton of attempted murder for shooting three Palestinian college students near the University of Vermont in November 2023.

The attack left Hisham Awartani paralyzed from the waist down and wounded his friends Tahseen Aliahmad and Kinnan Abdalhamid, who were all 20 at the time.

Eaton admitted he was the shooter but argued he was not guilty by reason of insanity, claiming he believed the CIA, Mossad and God had ordered him to attack the students.

After several hours of deliberation, jurors rejected the insanity defense, and Eaton was ordered to remain in jail pending sentencing, where he faces up to life in prison, The Guardian has reported.

The three men’s families welcomed the verdict while saying it could not undo the physical and emotional trauma caused by the shooting.
