DOJ trying to indict former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson

The U.S. Department of Justice is presenting evidence to a grand jury as prosecutors consider criminal charges against Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.

Hutchinson gained national attention in 2022 when she testified before the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

She testified that former President Donald Trump attempted to grab the steering wheel of his presidential vehicle after Secret Service agents refused to take him to the Capitol, an account later disputed by the vehicle’s driver.

Prosecutors are investigating whether Hutchinson lied to Congress, although it remains unclear which specific portions of her testimony are under scrutiny, CBS News has reported.

The investigation is being handled by the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, and no indictment has been confirmed as of October 8, 2026.
