According to law enforcement officials, the perpetrator, a female shooter whose name has not been disclosed, was responsible for the deaths of three adults and three children before being fatally shot by police.
While her identity has not been officially verified, initial reports from the police suggested that she was possibly a teenager.
Subsequently, the authorities confirmed that the shooter was a 28-year-old resident of the area, the Daily Mail is reporting.
The Covenant School, which is operated by a church, does not have a school resource officer on staff.
At approximately 10:13 am, the female suspect entered the school premises via a side entrance and proceeded to fire her weapons on the second floor.
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers heard gunfire emanating from the second floor. By 10:27 am, the shooter was neutralized. She had been armed with two assault-style rifles and a handgun.
Parents have been advised to retrieve their children from a nearby church, but no further details have been provided at this time.
