Marine archaeologists in Copenhagen have discovered the wreck of the Danish warship Dannebroge, sunk during the 1801 Battle of Copenhagen against Admiral Horatio Nelson’s British fleet.
The ship was found 15 meters underwater in poor visibility, as researchers race to study it before the area is turned into a major housing development.
The battle was a major naval clash in which the Danish flagship was heavily damaged by British cannon fire before eventually exploding and sinking.
Excavations have uncovered artifacts such as cannons, uniforms, bottles, and human remains, helping to shed light on life and death aboard the ship, The Guardian has reported.
Experts say the discovery could provide new insights into one of Denmark’s most significant historical battles.
