The Pentagon updated its casualty database, adding more than 140 wounded service members and creating a new category called “Overseas Operations” for casualties beginning July 7.

Officials now report 14 troops killed and more than 400 wounded during Operation Epic Fury, while a separate count brings the total since the Iran war began to 18 killed and 624 wounded.

The Trump administration says the renewed fighting after the ceasefire is a separate military operation, citing its interpretation of the War Powers Act.

Lawmakers from both parties have disputed that interpretation, arguing the conflict has been continuous and still requires congressional authorization, The Guardian has reported.

Critics, including Representative Thomas Massie, accused the administration of using the new classification to avoid legal limits on the duration of military operations.
