Ukraine agrees defense deal with Germany to help in fight against Russia

Ukraine and Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced plans with Germany to jointly produce advanced drones and other defense systems to strengthen Kyiv’s war effort against Russia.

Zelenskyy said both sides are beginning concrete work on a broad defense deal covering drones, missiles, and software, while Chancellor Friedrich Merz reaffirmed Germany’s strong support.

Ukraine aims to expand its military production but lacks sufficient funding, making a delayed €90 billion European Union loan crucial.

Meanwhile, a €4 billion defense package agreed with Germany will help Ukraine boost air defenses, including acquiring Patriot missiles, the AP has reported.

Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts led by the United States, Russia still controls about 20% of Ukraine’s territory, and the conflict continues.
