A bright fireball was seen streaking across Utah’s early morning sky on Thursday, surprising drivers and quickly spreading across social media after multiple videos were captured.
One driver, Jerry Duckworth, recorded the event on his dashcam after pulling over when he noticed a sudden flash of light he initially mistook for fireworks.
Experts from the Clark Planetarium identified the phenomenon as a large, bright meteor, noting that Utah is currently in its seasonal peak for fireball sightings.
Scientists said it is still unclear whether any fragments reached the ground, as analysis of video and radar data is ongoing, KUTV 2 News has reported.
The event was especially visible due to Utah’s dark skies, making it easier for residents to observe rare celestial activity.
