Trains collide near Indonesia’s capital, killing at least 4 people

At least four people were killed and dozens injured when two trains collided at Bekasi Timur Station near Jakarta, Indonesia.

A long-distance train crashed into the rear of a stopped commuter train, severely damaging one car and trapping several passengers.

About 38 passengers were taken to hospitals, while all 240 people on the long-distance train were reported safe.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident as rescue teams worked to free those still trapped, the Canadian Press has reported.

The crash highlights ongoing safety concerns on Indonesia’s aging rail network, which has seen similar deadly accidents in recent years.
