3 killed in latest U.S. strike on suspected drug boat in eastern Pacific

The U.S. military carried out another strike on a suspected drug-trafficking vessel in the eastern Pacific, killing three men, according to United States Southern Command.

The strike followed a similar attack in the Caribbean a day earlier and is part of the Trump administration’s expanding anti-“narcoterrorism” campaign in Latin America, which the Pentagon says has killed at least 190 people since September.

U.S. officials claim the targeted boats were linked to drug trafficking organizations, though critics say the government has provided little evidence to support those allegations.

President Donald Trump has defended the operations as necessary to combat cartels and reduce drug overdoses in the U.S, CBS News has reported.

Human rights advocates and legal experts have raised concerns about the legality of the strikes and the growing military escalation in the region.
