A hiker in Yellowstone National Park discovered signs of a bear attack, including paw prints, blood, and personal items, before finding an injured man on a trail near Biscuit Basin on Monday afternoon.
The victim was one of two brothers attacked by at least one bear, marking the park’s first bear attack of the season.
Both men were airlifted to a hospital, with one in critical condition and the other in serious condition.
A passerby stayed with the injured hiker, helped contact emergency services, and provided support until rescue crews arrived about 30 minutes later, the Jackson Hole News & Guide has reported.
Park officials have released few details about the incident, including the type of bear involved, while noting it is the first such attack in Yellowstone since September 2025.
