Karmelo Anthony’s murder trial to get underway over a Texas track meet stabbing

The murder trial of Texas teenager Karmelo Anthony, accused of fatally stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a Frisco high school track meet in April 2025, is set to begin with jury selection this week.

Prosecutors allege the stabbing happened after an argument under a team tent, while Anthony claims he acted in self-defense.

Anthony was charged with first-degree murder and remains on house arrest after his bond was reduced from $1 million to $250,000.

Due to intense public attention, the judge imposed a gag order and banned electronic devices and media coverage inside the courtroom to protect a fair trial, ABC News has reported.

The case has deeply affected the community, with Metcalf’s family mourning his death and school officials describing the incident as a heartbreaking and unprecedented tragedy.
