Hong Kong is preparing to open its first humanoid robot–run convenience store on the Hung Hom waterfront, as part of a wider push to integrate artificial intelligence into daily life.
The 24-hour shop will be operated by a robot system capable of serving customers in multiple languages and interacting with them to encourage purchases.
It is developed by a mainland Chinese embodied AI company, marking its first expansion outside mainland China and highlighting Hong Kong’s role as a testing ground for innovation.
The store follows earlier robotic retail pilots in Beijing and is expected to help attract more foot traffic while showcasing advanced automation technology, Dimsum Daily has reported.
Officials also announced a new government AI committee aimed at expanding real-world applications of artificial intelligence across the city.
