Trump officially nominates Blanche as attorney general

President Donald Trump has nominated acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to permanently lead the Justice Department, sending the appointment to the Senate for confirmation.

Blanche, a former personal defense lawyer for Trump, would replace Pam Bondi and has already received support from key Republicans, including Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley.

Lawmakers are expected to question him on several controversial issues, including a proposed “anti-weaponization” fund linked to a Trump IRS settlement and his handling of related legal agreements.

He has also faced scrutiny over decisions involving immunity provisions tied to Trump’s tax-related settlement, UPI has reported.

Additional questions are expected about his role in managing the release of sensitive Justice Department documents, including the so-called Epstein files.
