A California woman, 33-year-old Morabia Siddhi Suresh, died in Kentucky after being struck on Interstate 75 while trying to rescue a pet that escaped her vehicle following an earlier crash.
Authorities said she had been driving in rainy conditions when the initial collision occurred, causing the animal to flee the car.
In an attempt to retrieve the pet, she entered active traffic lanes and was hit by another vehicle.
She was taken to a hospital with serious injuries but later died, according to officials, the USA Today has reported.
Investigators said drugs and alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the incident.
