Pilot declares mayday before seaplane comes down in New York City’s East River

Eight people were rescued after a Kodiak 100 seaplane made a hard landing in New York City’s East River near the NY Skyport on Sunday afternoon.

The aircraft, traveling from East Hampton to Manhattan, reportedly issued a mayday call before landing in the water and sustaining damage.

Firefighters and emergency crews quickly responded, evacuating all passengers from the upright plane, with two people suffering minor injuries.

The seaplane was later towed to a nearby dock as authorities secured the scene, Fox News has reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident, and the cause of the hard landing remains unclear.
