Donald Trump rang the New York Stock Exchange bell from the White House to mark the launch of “Trump accounts,” a federal program giving children $1,000 investment accounts.
He hosted leaders from the NYSE and Nasdaq in the Oval Office for the first joint exchange opening, highlighting it as a historic event.
The accounts, established by Congress, are designed to help children build long-term savings and can be funded further by family or others up to $5,000 per year.
Major donors, including Michael Dell, Ray Dalio, and SpaceX CEO Gwynne Shotwell, contributed large sums to expand benefits for children in lower-income areas, The Guardian has reported.
The accounts invest in index funds and become accessible at age 18 for uses like education, housing, or starting a business.
