A 51-year-old man, Raul Morales, has been charged with attempted murder, assault, and weapon possession after two stabbing attacks on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
Police said witnesses reported Morales shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the attacks, leading to hate crime charges in the stabbing of a Jewish victim.
The victims, identified as Chok Sung and Moshe Yezhak Grunhaus, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized in stable condition.
Officials said the attacks occurred about two blocks apart, and there is no evidence the victims knew each other or the suspect, NBC News has reported.
City leaders condemned the violence and said the suspect should face the full consequences of the law.
