A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck near Naples on Friday, with its epicenter in the Phlegraean Fields, Europe’s largest active supervolcano.

The quake was the strongest recorded since increased ground movement, known as bradyseism, began in the region.

There were no immediate reports of major damage or injuries, although power outages, fallen debris, and a building facade collapse were reported.

The tremor was felt across Naples and the nearby islands of Ischia and Procida, prompting many residents to flee into the streets, DPA International has reported.

Officials continue to monitor the volcanically active area, which has experienced frequent earthquakes in recent years.
