Crews in Hawaii were working Tuesday to restore power to thousands of residents after Tropical Storm Lala caused destructive flooding and killed one person over the weekend.
The storm weakened from a hurricane to a tropical storm as it moved west, leaving significant damage to roads, trees, power lines and other infrastructure across the islands.
Many residents and tourists were left without electricity, while some hotels lost power and air conditioning during the storm.
Most public schools reopened, but some emergency operations remained suspended, and crews continued clearing roads and debris on the Big Island and Maui, the AP has reported.
Officials said a 90-year-old woman was killed after being reported missing, while Gov. Josh Green said the overall damage was less severe than initially feared and recovery was expected to move quickly.
