Charlotte doctor arrested in I-77 road rage shooting that injured 2 sisters, police say

A Charlotte doctor has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies after allegedly shooting into another vehicle during a road rage incident on Interstate 77 in Virginia.

Virginia State Police said 61-year-old Richard T. Ariviello fired shots from his Mercedes-Benz at a Jeep carrying two sisters, ages 12 and 20.

Both sisters were injured in the shooting but suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.

Ariviello was later stopped near Exit 19 in Carroll County and arrested, facing charges including malicious shooting into an occupied vehicle, shooting from a vehicle and using a firearm during a felony, WBTV-3 has reported.

The Jeep’s driver was also charged with reckless driving, while police continue to investigate what led to the confrontation.
