President Donald Trump shared images of a proposed next-generation U.S. Space Force dress uniform, featuring a dark gray and black design with tall boots and a military-style jacket. 

The design graphic says it was inspired by the discipline and functionality of the uniforms in the 1997 science-fiction film Starship Troopers, while being modernized for Space Force personnel.

The proposed uniform quickly drew comparisons online to the uniforms worn by the Galactic Empire in Star Wars and, more controversially, to Nazi-era military clothing, the Washington Examiner has reported.

The controversy is partly connected to Starship Troopers, whose 1997 film adaptation deliberately used fascist imagery as a satire of authoritarianism and militarism. 

It is also unclear whether the design represents an official plan to replace the Space Force’s current uniforms, which were only recently introduced, or whether it was primarily a concept shared by Trump on social media.
