Saudi-led coalition intercepts Houthi drone headed for Mecca

Saudi Arabia says its air defenses intercepted and destroyed a drone launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement before it entered restricted airspace near Mecca.

The Saudi-led coalition described the incident as a serious threat to the safety of worshippers and civilians in Islam’s holiest city.

The coalition’s spokesman said the security of Mecca and the two holy mosques is a “red line” and warned of possible deterrent action.

The Houthis have denied targeting Mecca or other religious sites, calling Saudi Arabia’s accusation false, Al-Jazeera has reported.

The incident comes amid a broader escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, with attacks increasing across the region.
