Sheriff’s deputies in Compton are resuming their patrol duties on Monday after a tumultuous weekend that involved multiple street takeovers and a mob of looters causing significant damage to local stores.

Early on Sunday morning, a large group was captured on video ransacking an Arco gas station near Alondra Boulevard and Central Avenue, stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise while the clerk on duty hid in the bathroom.

The video footage shows one man smashing the glass door while dozens of others rush in to grab drinks, snacks, alcohol, and other items, including condoms, ABC 7 News reported.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the store sustained significant damage, and thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise was stolen.

The incident left Compton residents like Greg Johnson stunned, with some describing it as unreal and something they had never seen before.

While no injuries were reported, shots were fired a block away from the store, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The staff at the gas station confirmed that the clerk who hid in the bathroom during the raid was doing okay.
