Authorities reported that a tragic incident occurred in an Alaska estuary when a man, accompanied by friends, became trapped up to his waist in quicksand-like silt while walking on tidal mud flats.
Before rescuers could free him, the rising tide submerged him, resulting in his unfortunate drowning, the Associated Press has reported.
The victim, identified as Zachary Porter, a 20-year-old resident of Lake Bluff, Illinois, was submerged on Sunday evening as the tide began to come in.
His body was recovered on Monday morning, according to Austin McDaniel, a spokesperson for the Alaska State Troopers.
When Porter’s companions were unable to extricate him from the situation, one of them contacted emergency services by dialing 911. Regrettably, their efforts proved futile.
