Nearly one-fourth of FBI agents nationwide are now focused on immigration enforcement, according to data obtained by Sen. Mark Warner.
The Trump administration’s intensified immigration crackdown has redirected FBI resources away from traditional priorities like counterterrorism and organized crime.
In the 25 largest field offices, up to 45% of agents are reportedly spending at least half their time assisting Immigration and Customs Enforcement in locating and arresting undocumented immigrants.
Warner’s office criticized the move as a diversion from critical national security work, while Attorney General Pam Bondi defended it as necessary to remove violent offenders, Axios has reported.
The shift reflects FBI Director Kash Patel’s broader focus on immigration and violent crime.
