Kyiv was hit early Friday by a “massive attack” from Russia, targeting critical infrastructure and causing widespread power and water outages, fires in high-rise apartments, and nine injuries.
Ukrainian officials reported drone and missile strikes, while the energy ministry said experts were working to minimize damage and restore services.
Russia also struck Zaporizhzhia, killing a seven-year-old and injuring others, while Ukraine retaliated with drone and missile strikes on Russian territory, affecting power stations and fuel supplies.
President Zelenskyy described the attacks as an attempt to create chaos and psychological pressure, noting that previous strikes have already strained Ukraine’s gas infrastructure, The Guardian has reported.
Meanwhile, Russia accused Ukraine of rupturing a defunct pipeline near the frontline, releasing toxic gas, though authorities said it posed no immediate danger to nearby residents.
