A federal grand jury in Alexandria, Virginia, declined to indict New York Attorney General Letitia James on alleged mortgage-fraud charges, marking the second failed indictment attempt in a week after another grand jury in Norfolk also rejected the case.
James and her attorney, Abbe Lowell, accused the Justice Department of pursuing a politically motivated effort driven by President Trump.
Lowell noted that both career prosecutors and two separate grand juries refused to advance the charges.
James has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, calling the allegations baseless and part of an effort to weaponize the justice system, Axios has reported.
A recent federal court ruling also dismissed related cases after finding that a Trump-aligned attorney had been illegally appointed.
