Iranian Drones and Missiles Challenge Stretched U.S. Forces

The U.S. faces mounting risks to its forces and diplomatic sites in the Middle East as Iran launches widespread missile and drone attacks across the region.

United States Central Command said six servicemembers were killed in a drone strike on a base in Kuwait, while three U.S. F-15 jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses amid the attacks.

American bases in Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, along with the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh, have also come under fire, highlighting the strain on coalition air defenses.

Iran’s large stockpiles of missiles and inexpensive drones, along with threats to key energy infrastructure and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, are testing U.S. and allied defenses, the Wall Street Journal has reported.

Officials warn the conflict could deplete critical munitions and lead to further casualties as the U.S. struggles to protect troops, embassies and strategic assets across a vast area.
