The organizer of SantaCon, a holiday bar crawl event, has been arrested and charged with defrauding more than $1 million meant for charity.
Federal prosecutors allege that Stefan Pildes misled ticket buyers and venues from 2019 to 2026, claiming proceeds would support charities while diverting much of the $2.7 million raised for personal use.
Authorities say he spent the money on luxury expenses, including home renovations, high-end travel, a luxury car, and expensive dining.
Only a small portion of the funds allegedly went to charitable causes, despite public claims that donations supported a “charity drive,” CNN has reported.
Pildes has pleaded not guilty and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
