ODNI sends criminal referrals to DOJ for ex-IG, whistleblower tied to Trump impeachment

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) has referred a whistleblower involved in the 2019 Trump impeachment inquiry, along with a former intelligence inspector general, to the Justice Department for possible criminal investigation.

The referrals stem from allegations tied to the handling of a 2019 complaint about President Donald Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

ODNI officials claim newly released documents suggest improper actions within the intelligence community, while critics say the complaint was properly handled under existing procedures.

The whistleblower’s report had originally raised concerns that Trump pressured Ukraine to investigate political rival Joe Biden and his family, leading to Trump’s impeachment by the House in 2019 and later acquittal by the Senate, Fox News has reported.

The Justice Department has not yet publicly responded to the referrals.
