Two tornadoes confirmed in Southeast Michigan from overnight storms

The National Weather Service confirmed two EF-1 tornadoes struck Southeast Michigan early on April 15, 2026, affecting Washtenaw and Wayne counties.

The stronger tornado hit the Ann Arbor area around 1:44 a.m., reaching winds up to 110 mph and carving a 1.7-mile path through neighborhoods, parks, and parts of the University of Michigan area.

It caused significant damage including uprooted trees, downed light poles, and roof damage to an elementary school and Yost Ice Arena, before lifting at 1:46 a.m.

A second EF-1 tornado briefly touched down near the Allen Park and Lincoln Park border around 2:14 a.m., producing 95 mph winds and additional structural and tree damage over a short path, All About Ann Arbor has reported.

No injuries or deaths were reported from either tornado.
