US Senate rejects another war powers resolution to limit Trump on Iran

The US Senate has failed for the fourth time to pass a resolution aimed at limiting President Donald Trump’s authority to wage war with Iran, with the vote largely split along party lines.

The measure followed recent developments in the conflict, including a short ceasefire and stalled negotiations between the US and Iran.

Supporters argue Trump acted unconstitutionally by launching military action without congressional approval, while critics say he has the authority to act in national defense.

The resolution has repeatedly been introduced but is considered mostly symbolic, even if it were to pass both chambers, due to the likelihood of a presidential veto, Al-Jazeera has reported.

Under the War Powers Act, Congress could still gain a more decisive role if the conflict continues beyond 60 days without authorization.
